mindyourmind.ca is awarded Champion of Mental Health

For Immediate Release:

The second annual Breakfast of Champions, put on by St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation and the London-Middlesex branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association, focused on mental health issues and the elimination of stigma associated with mental illness. A fundraiser for mental health programming in the community, the breakfast was held during the Mental Health Awareness Week that takes place between May 5 - 11.

The voice of CBC Radio, Shelagh Rogers, spoke candidly about her experience with unipolar depression, bringing more than a few, of the over 650 breakfast attendants, to tears. As many of us who experience mental illness, such as depression or anxiety, Shelagh’s depression went undiagnosed for years. Symptoms are not always obvious, and objectivity is not always readily available when we must apply it to ourselves. Ironically, losing her voice, was one of the undeniable ways depression chose to manifest itself to Shelagh.

The Champion of Mental Health Award, honouring a person or organization for excellence in mental health care and delivery, had 12 nominees from the London community. mindyourmind.ca was totally stoked to be recognized as this year’s winner!
