Will Munro was a Punk-Rocker, DJ, queer activist, artist, volunteer, and civic glue to Toronto queer culture. He changed where and how Toronto’s queer community celebrated public life. Will Munro was instrumental in creating safe space for queer and trans people in the city of Toronto. Will was also a very beloved volunteer and staff person for 14 years at the Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line.

In his memory, the Lesbian Gay Bi Trans Youth Line is proud to announce the “Spirit of Will Munro” Award. This award is made possible through the continuous and generous support of Kristyn Wong-Tam. This $10 000 award is available to Ontario LGBTTQI2S youth (under 27 years of age), or an Ontario LGBTTIQ2S youth led organizations to establish an event, project, organization or business at the local level that uses the arts* and provides youth- friendly, sustainable community growth for LGBTQ people. Guided by the legacy of Will Munro, the successful recipients will do some or all of the following:

• Create possibilities for self-expression and relationship building in their local community using the arts*
• Provide individuals with the opportunity to end their isolation and become unapologetic about their sexual or gender identity
•  Challenge the boundaries of the mainstream ‘one-size-fits-all’ gay and straight culture
• Provide outcasts and freaks with a place to thrive without fear
• Expand and maximize pleasure (in a variety of forms)
• Connect the work they are doing to past political, cultural or artistic movements
