Part-Time Community Of Practice Coordinator

mindyourmind, a program of Family Service Thames Valley

mindyourmindis a non-profit mental health program that engages youth, emerging adults and the professionals who serve them to co-develop reliable and relevant resources. These resources are designed to reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and increase access and use of community support, both professional and peer-based. Through the use of active engagement, best practice and technology, mindyourmind inspires youth to reach out, get help and give help.

The Community of Practice Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the development of a "community of practice" (e.g.mindyourmindpro.ca) amongst the various groups of stakeholders involved in mindyourmind’s core mission. Stakeholders include non-profit organizations, schools, corporate partners, and government groups that work with youth and young adults.

The Community of Practice Coordinator will

  • use engagement and community development principles to build and exchange knowledge
  • be responsible for conducting formal and informal assessments of stakeholder needs and assets around youth engagement and develop training offerings that build capacity among community-based partners.
  • collaborate broadly with stakeholders to create innovative methods through which mindyourmind resources and those of the community can be brought together to achieve shared goals.
  • use social networking and new media to build and strengthen the community of practice.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A post secondary degree in Human Services, Community Development or a Health-related field
  • Minimum 5 years clinical experience working with youth and young adults living with mental illness or emotional challenges
  • Previous work where a strong capacity for youth engagement and community development have been demonstrated
  • Demonstrated understanding of the benefits of new media and social technology tools in building and engaging community
