Sean Kingston – Face Drop

E-mail Print PDF

Sean Kingston’s new hit “Face Drop” is bringing mixed feelings to the table. Sean sings of how a girl he is in love with tells him his appearance is not good enough for her anymore. In his lyrics, this attractive girl states that he “would look better if he was thinner.” Today, this is the message that society pressures and influences young adults to believe that being thinner is better and by being thin I will be prettier or more handsome.

In this song, the message being portrayed is to look at what is on the inside of a person versus what is on the outside. It is great how an image of support from others, positive self-worth and self- esteem are represented throughout the video. However, at the end of the video we seem to get the impression that after he sends out the message of not judging appearances that he is chasing after a very attractive woman. A question that may arise is, why is the message not fully supported in his music video by his actions?

Society should look at what Sean is portraying in his lyrics and see if there is a way to publicize that looking within a person to see the good qualities that they bring forth. Would the world be a different place? Would celebrities look and act different? We will never really know due to this message that society has brought forth.
