Music Therapy

E-mail Print PDF

Came across on a YouTube Video and article today that suggested patients who suffer from pain, or suffering from depression, could soon be prescribed a special kind of music to alleviate their symptoms.

Researchers from the Glasgow Caledonian University are using sound engineering and psychology to study the influence of music on mood.  They hope to discover the way that music therapy could be adapted to patients in the treatment of certain diseases such as depression.

Meanwhile, intrigued by this concept, I thought it would be interesting to hear what songs people thought could be put on a list that would help people coping with depression.  I asked our followers via our Facebook and Twitter  platforms, and here are just a few suggestions:

Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd

Last Night a DJ Saved My Life - Indeep

Healing Hands - Elton John

Alright, - Supergrass

What a Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong

I Will Survive - Gloria Gaynor

And on the other hand people also suggested a few songs they think should be avoided if you’re suffering from depression:

Cigarettes and Alcohol - Oasis

Cardiac Arrest - Madness

Manic Monday - Bangles

Leave Me Alone - New Order

Everybody Hurts - REM

Tells us what you think, what songs do you feel could help someone coping with depression or alternatively which songs would you suggest to stay away from?
