Are you a procrastinator? I am. Not just with little things, like organizing my closet, but with big things too like actually sticking to a workout routine, rather than just starting one; or taking real steps to move on from a past relationship rather than holding on. There's always this idea that I can do something LATER, just like the article below talks about. For me, there's always a struggle, a conflict between my time now, what I want now, and what I ultimately want. It takes work. But worse, it takes CHANGE. Something I never adapt to easily. Letting go of something or letting something new in has never come easy to me... So even when I know there's something I have to do, and that likely, I will enjoy the outcome of it, I have to consciously make choices to steer away from my natural tendency to put things off, and off, and off some more...
It's easy to do something you've always done, something you're use to, something that's comforting, and put off changing it. Why would you right? Well if it's not working or has failed you 50 out of 50 times (or more), then likely something needs to change. It's not easy coming to terms with a lifestyle change or a loss or anything else you ultimately didn't choose to have go wrong and now are stuck having to deal with. But what's the alternative? Waiting for later? Some change that you can see, approaching you, but never quite happening? What if LATER really doesn't come?? What if it is just up to you to make a choice or a change? Now.
Now can be scary. Seems so sudden, so fatalistic. So if you're as scared of making a change now as I am, maybe starting with some deadlines might help. Give yourself some time to process things, but just don't take forever..
Some food for thought if you're procrastinating something you know you should be doing or changing...
