Driving Tests!

E-mail Print PDF

Like most teens, the minute I turned 16 I went got my G1 and I begged my parents on a daily basis to take me driving. I couldn’t wait till I could get my G2 and drive on my own. Once the big day came  around, I was extremely nervous to take my G1 exit test… stomach in knots, weak knees, headaches… I tried to stay focus and relax while I was driving – it didn’t help that I had an awful examiner!!! I was lucky to pass!!! I was so happy that I finally had my licence! My happiness quickly turned to anger as I learned that in less than a year I would be taking another driving test. I couldn’t believe it! What was the point of this final test? I understand that this has a “highway driving” portion, but you’re only on the highway for about 2 minutes and the rest of the test is identical to your G1 exit test! It’s not only annoying but I feel that it’s such a costly venture. I don’t know if this final driving test is as necessary as the Ministry of Transportation deems it to be. The MOT is a business and businesses like to make money! From the day I got G1, this is what I’m spent (excluding, gas, plate stickers and insurance):

*
$100 for G1 written test and first G1 exit test
*
$500 for Drivers Education
*
$280 for private driving lessons to prepare of G2 exit test
*
$75 for my G2 exit test
*
$45 licence renewal

I can’t believe by parents and I have spent to much money on this!!! Oh and if that isn’t a huge kick-in-the-face the fact that if you fail to complete your G2 exits test within 5 years of writing you G1 written test you’re forced to start back at your G1!!!! How awful! Not only is that a lot more money you need to spend but how wants to be 21 and having your parents in the passenger seat while you drive! UGH!

Last Wednesday I took my G2 exit test and passed successfully! Thank god! No more driving tests till I’m 80!
