K'naan's music calls for peace and freedom

I’ve been in need of some new music lately. Not necessarily new, as in just released, but new as in new to me – something good, something that speaks to some part of me, from some part of it. Whether a good beat that makes me wanna get up and dance, lyrics that catch my thoughts or breath, something rockin’ that makes me  wanna jump up and exclaim fuck yeah!...whatever...just been needing to listen to something  good I haven’t heard before, that makes me wanna press the repeat button (that’s how you know you really like a song btw...if you’re pressing repeat...and if you’re me, you press it again and again and drive everyone around you a little nuts :S).

I listen to everything from System of a Down (which btw, I’m happy to have discovered Serj has a new album I can’t wait to check out!) to Lil Wayne to Neil Young to Telepopmusik to Sarah Maclachlan to what could get to be a very long list... anyways, I’m bored with it all at the moment.

So I was surprised to find an absolutely amazing artist in K’naan today when someone sent an email about him... everyone’s heard his Wavin’ Flag song, which is a great song, but I’d never really listened to the lyrics before. And I’ve never heard his newer tracks off his Troubadour album, like “Take a Minute” and “Fire In Freetown”. It’s not a surprise that he has recorded in Jamaica with Damian and Stephen Marley when you hear his revolutionary songs, calling for peace and freedom. He tells stories through his music about poverty and war and Africa and there’s something very truthful and important about them. He is an inspiration and I’m happy I came across his songs today. Listen to him for yourself...
