Integrating Gang Youth Back Into Their Communities

E-mail Print PDF

The Healthy Aboriginal Network creates comic books and films on health and social issues for youth. "Integrating Gang Youth Back Into Their Communities" is their latest story. It was created based on interviews held with incarcerated Aboriginal youth gang members, for the new justice comic book. Some things that were apparent in the interviews was that most of the gang youth felt powerless to change their situation. They were in the system and felt that their future was pretty much laid out for them in and out of incarceration.

All of the gang youth interviewed, except for one, felt that they were going to return to their old lifestyle and gang involvement. No one saw a life for themselves outside of the one they were living now.The Healthy Aboriginal Network hopes that they can change this by teaching gang youth the truth, exit strategies and offering alternatives and they want your feedback. They are especially interested in feedback from youth that have had experiences with gangs. You can send your feedback to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
