Hey everyone! So yesterday I had several people ask me my thoughts about NBC’s THE VOICE and since I watched the show, I decided to take a stab at it at a bit of a review.
After a few Battle Rounds, which I can’t say I was too wild about (minus a couple, which I thought we’re super cool); the other day was the very first live show for The Voice.
For those of you how aren’t sure, this means each contestant from Team Christina and Team Blake took the stage one at a time and performed a song in order to get a chance to move on in the competition. In order to move on, they need to either be a viewer’s pick (from general public voting) or a coach’s pick (I suspect the coach will pick one singer to move on to the next round).
Ok so let’s talk about the live performance!
First, - I have to start with the coach’s opening performance of Queen Songs -- Adam Levine started with “Bohemian Rhapsody”. Than Cee Lo Green comes in with a little “We Will Rock You” and eventually he’s joined by Blake Shelton on vocals and Adam on an electric guitar. Finally, Christina Aguilera brings in her vocals and her deficiency in pants to “We Are the Champions”. SEE VIDEO HERE
But let’s move on to the contestants. I will break down my thoughts per team in the order they appeared. So here they are:
TEAM CHRISTINA
Raquel Castro -- She wasn’t really great, to be honest I’m surprised she even made it this far because even her battle round was weak. I don’t know what the coach’s were listening to, but my guess is she won’t be moving to the next round.
Beverly McClellan -- I thought she did really well. I’m not a fan (yet), but she definitely has a really powerful voice.
Lily Elise -- She was umm just ok for me. Not awful, but not grand either. I really don’t have much to say
Frenchie Davis -- I really enjoyed her performance, her voice is wickedly powerful. Also, I think I like she’s got a bit of an upper hand in experience with her perform in Rent on Broadway.
Team Performance – The group performed “Lady Marmalade”, Christina didn’t take over the performance as she could have and each singer did have their moment in the spotlight. I think Frenchie and Beverly were the strongest of the four
TEAM BLAKE
Jared Blake -- He was solid, although the performance was overly unique. It sounded a lot like the original song. The most interesting aspect may have just been him ending all up in a woman’s space in the audience. I say he’s not moving on, check out his performance here VIDEO
Dia Frampton -- In one word, Wow! I loved her performance! She has definitely set herself apart for me as an early favourite.
Xenia -- I think she’s has the most unique voice, but her shyness, stage fright is a noticeable downfall at this stage. Still one of my standouts and I’m hoping she moves on but not sure she will.
Patrick Thomas -- Since I Country isn’t my cup of tea and I think we’ve all had our share of country on American Idol; this performance was just mediocre for me. VIDEO
Team Performance -- The team took the stage and performed “This Love” by Maroon 5 which was such a pleasurable pick as Adam chuckled the whole time. Patrick and Xenia start it off. There was good chemistry here and more importantly the team looks like they are having fun. VIDEO
MY PICKS
I have to award this night to Team Blake and to Dia and Xenia specifically, they were my picks and I’m hoping they move on, because I want to see more performances from these two.
As for Team Christina, my picks would be Frenchie and Beverly.
So those are my choices. What do think? Do you agree with my favourites? Who are you hoping moves on?
After Thoughts--
- Doesn’t it really suck that we have to wait a entire week to hear the results?! American Idol you have spoiled me, I want the results now!
- What do you think about all the Social Media and Twitter (I’ve linked each contest and judge to their twitter account for you) talk throughout the show?
