In preparation for mindyourmind’s International Youth Day Mash Up, Max (mindyourmind’s Youth Outreach Assistant and self-titled ‘collector of cool’) has been hard at work finding awesome companies who are willing to donate prizes for the young people who attend the event on August 12th. In this series of blogs he will share some of the companies he has found, and give a little bit of an idea about what they are donating and why it is important for youth. Enjoy!

One of the first donations for International Youth Day that we received was a box of NonLife Zoo Dolls from California based website Mollaspace (www.mollaspace.com). The NonLife Zoo is an initiative created by two designers, based in Taiwan! (Talk about international) These creations seek to raise awareness about animals that are going extinct, by portraying animals in ways that will make people think and consider how we treat our environment. Each of these dolls is based on one of four different animals: tiger, rooster, elephant and giraffe. Each of them stand on two feet (just like humans) and have a very empty look on their face (sort of like a skull) which shows the pain that these animals face as their species continue to be threatened. Each of these dolls is handmade, each with environmentally friendly material, and packaged in a tyvek, reusable shoulder bag!

Upon first glance you might think that these dolls are incredibly weird, but when you read more about the project and the innocence these animals possess, it really makes them more lovable. As young people we are always told about how we are going to inherit the earth, and how we need to conserve and save it. Learning about animals that are going extinct is an important part about this, because it asks how different they really are from us. We should be willing to fight for their survival when it is in our hands, because they are not able to fight for themselves.

The Nonlife Zoo dolls are the first of many prizes that we have received for mindyourmind’s International Youth Day Mash Up, if you want to learn more about Mollaspace and the NonLife Zoo you can check out their website at: www.mollaspace.com. And keep checking back on mindyourmind.ca for more blog entries detailing the awesome prizes as they keep rolling in. And then come to the event and you could be cuddling one of these just as I am in this picture!

You raise a great point about fighting for the vulnerable who can't fight for themselves! We must protect unborn children from abortion and the sick from euthanasia. IYD2012 is a great time to empower youth to create change in this world!

The Non Life Zoo Dolls are super cool, especially the middle one with the glasses! What is that, some kind of marsupial?

Max, I'm not sure if I should be worried about your attachment to that giraffe...you're reminding me of my dog with his stuffies...
