The 2012 International Youth Day Street Team was involved from beginning to end in helping to plan, coordinate and devliver an amazing youth day event.
For International Youth Day we wanted to make sure that youth were represented at each level, so we set up a street team of young people to help plan the event this year! When the event had finished and we wrapped everything up we asked each volunteer to contribute how they felt about International Youth Day and what it meant to them to be behind an event like this. Enjoy!
Ivy: My experience planning International Youth Day was great. I had tons of fun discussing ideas with everyone and it's always such a positive environment in the mindyourmind office. I thought the event went very well and I'm pleased with what we were all able to help put on for the community!
Taylor: Helping plan out this year's International Youth Day was amazing. Having performed in this event last year, it was great to be behind the scenes. It was a lot of fun getting to meet all the volunteers and working in such a great atmosphere at mindyourmind. I think the event was a huge success, and I'm so glad I was able to be a part of it again!
Davis: There's no night in my whole life have ever been so unforgettable. When I was silly enough to underestimate the true passion of youth and the real limit of their talent.I found out I was wrong. Just like what Luka said in his speech, there is no limit for us after all. I haven't got much left in my mind to come home with except every single detail of the night. One minute before they walked out the stage, they were excited, sweating, and even nervous. Yet when they went out there, I believe the time or space have all stuck there with us to witness their talent. I don't know which melody had reached the deepest corner of people's heart. Whether the powerful singing or the remarkable dancing, it doesn't really matter, because I was blown away by all of them. And the experience for me to be back stage with all of them, just made another page of my future autobiography.
Jim: Sunday August 12, 2012 was truly one of the most inspiring nights I've ever had. Exactly one year ago, I was engaged with mindyourmind after winning last year's mash-up with as Ill At Will dance crew. Since then I've been very inspired by their positive movement within the youth community and being part of the Street Team really educated me and broadened my knowledge on mental health. The event reminded me just how powerful today's youth can be with the right kind of motivation. It was an honour to be on the stage with BBoy Luca 'LazyLegz' Patuelli and inspire everyone in the audience to stay positive and never give up. No Excuses, No Limits.
Ashlynn: Hosting IYD was such an amazing experience. Meeting such talented and passionate youth is an inspiration to aim and reach higher. The energy in the performance hall was so positive and so amazing! With all of us together, supporting each other and having a blast, it really showcased what youth are capable of. I'm so happy to say that I'm part if such an awesome generation. MindyourMind did an excellent job, once again, in hosting IYD. Congrats!
