New Adventures of the mym Street Team

E-mail Print PDF

This week at our Street Team meeting we were once again visted by some out of town guests, it’s cause we’re just so darn nice! This week’s guests were two members of the Ontario Association of Children’s Aid Societies (OACAS.org).

OACAS is the governing organization that represents over 53 Children’s Aid Societies throughout Ontario. The Street Team learned a bit more about what the OACAS is doing, including a big conference coming up this June that mindyourmind will be taking part in as well some previous projects they’ve developed. We also shared more about what we do and who we are at mindyourmind because we can all learn from each other.

Also this week, as I’m sure many of you may already know, there was a huge career fair/skills event at the Western Fair held by SLOME (SKILLS – London, Oxford, Middlesex, Elgin). This massive career fair was attended by organizations from all over the city including Hutton House, Fanshawe College, representatives for National Youth Week and of course…mindyourmind! Our tiny booth saw quite a bit of traffic regardless of the noisy activities happening all around us! Youth from local elementary and secondary schools were welcomed with open arms, and hand fulls of pens, MYM poster and pamphlets, band posters and stickers and the chance to win one of three super cool prize…buckets, including art supplies, journals and signed DVDs and CDS! The website was of course up and running for anyone to take a peek at and yours truly, as well as other brave members of mindyourmind ran the Reach Out Game for the chance to fill out a raffle ticket. The day went very well, despite the often overwhelming amount of interest we recieved!

I believe we reached out to a lot of new youth, many of whom shockingly enough had never heard of us before! If you are one of those youth, then welcome! Bring your friends! And of course look for us in the Galleria Mall in downtown London.

Well folks thats it for this week.

Until next time,

Take care of yourselves.
Jen, Street Team Member
