The first step to Reaching Out

This past week’s mindyourmind Street Team’s meeting was a combination of fun and learning. It had the suspense of jeopardy with a twist of mind your mind. The amazing game: REACH OUT GAME. If you haven’t played this magnificent wonder first hand, it is available on the mym website, however we, the street team, had the pleasure of experiencing the game hands on. This version also involved more education than the virtual one accessible on the mym website: mindyourmind.ca.This week’s session continued our learning of mental illness in further depth. As an actual team we discussed many possible situations that occur in everyday lives, how to protect friends/family members in danger, how to prevent mental illness, etc.

Unlike the video, that informed us, we were able to show how much we knew of mental health and teach each other. We took were able to take possible scenarios and apply them to real life and learn how we could prevent them from happening, or what we would do in a city such as London.

I found the meeting extremely informative and fun. This educational lesson is the first step to reaching out in the community and helping people. Having this information allows you to identify when someone is in need of help, and thus knowing how to act upon it. I now feel fully aware of mental health and how it affects everyone’s daily lives. It is life saving information and extremely important to be aware of all the signs. So, if you haven’t played the game, then GO! Right now and have fun!
