Courage from Within

E-mail Print PDF

This past week’s mym Street Team meeting was spent learning about mental illness (specifically depression, psychosis and schizophrenia), its symptoms as well as many misconceptions associated with mental illness. To incorporate all this, we watched a video produced and edited by mindyourmind’s first Youth Ambassadors Group – the “pioneers” of the organization if you will. What I found most stimulating about the whole video was that the individuals in the film were real. Their stories were true and honest, and they did an excellent job of revealing to us, coping mechanism used to aid them through difficult times.

I found it extremely courageous for these individuals to share their stories. They were altruistic enough to come forward and emphasize the importance of reaching out and getting help. I found the whole video extremely inspiring. These individuals are living proof that with a strong support system and a will to triumph over hardship, mental wellness is achievable. I just hope that one day I’ll have enough strength to come forward and share my story with the world. All the best,

Leigh
