Street Team 2010 will develop an App for mindyourmind! We're still deciding whether it will be a facebook or a mobile app...in the meantime here's a summary from Nik and a video summary of our second meeting by Ethan and Cameron.

Yesterday was the street team’s second meeting together. Our goal this year for the street team is to design an app that will break the stigma associated with mental illnesses.  We want to create an app that is fun but people will still learn about mental health. So what we are trying to do is to create an app for either cell phones or computers that are fun and still educate people.  At our second meeting we talked about the benefits of a mobile app and an online app, and where the best place for our app would be. We talked about how a lot of people these days have cell phones, so we talked about putting an app there. But then we also debated on putting an app on something like facebook. These days everybody has a facebook account. If we put the app on facebook then more people would see it and hear about the app because facebook is so populated. We also found out that 120 percent of people 16 to 24 have a facebook account. This means that 1 in 5 people have 2 facebook accounts.

At our meeting we discussed these two places to put the app. We discussed what spot would be the best. We thought about putting the app on both a mobile device and a computer. The street team broke up into three separate groups to talk about what the app might be about. We were in our group for about 20 minutes and then everybody shared what app their group came up with. One group came up with an app that is kind of a build your own adventure game.  You would walk along as a character then you would freeze. 2 lines would come up and you would have to choose what you were going to do. Obviously having some evolvement of mental health plugged into the game. This was just one group’s example of an app but there were many more. The tough part is that you have to decide the difficulty of the app. We have to decide if it’s going to be very basic or if it’s going to be advanced for the people that know more about mental health. These are the things we discussed at our second meeting.
