The message: To encourage peers, family members and individuals to reach out and get help.
Idea: It's kind of the idea like if you have diabetes, you don't just try to 'get over it' – you go in, get it diagnosed and get the proper care for it. Either its via medication on just healthy techniques and such. So why wouldn't mental health be the same? On this point, I think we should emphasis the point that mental health is just as important as physical health – thus both deserve proper treatment and help to stay healthy. From there we could potentially somehow incorporate the target to "get the help that works for you" (what we talked about a meeting or two ago).
I really like the last ad we looked at on the site last meeting – its the one of the little girl with the statistics above her about autism. I think statistics grab attention very well. Thus my idea is to have some sort of perspective of a person (preferably youth) and incorporate a similar idea to the other ad – putting a couple of stats on there comparing mental health to physical health. Cancer has been a hot topic for a while now so it's recognized by many. We could find and pull up a statistic about cancer and compare it to a statistic on mental illness and show the type of effect that the poster of the little girl with the mic showed. Then we can put in a phrase below outlining statistics on how many cancer patients come in for treatment and compare it to how many people come it for treatment for mental illness purposes.
These are not at all correct numbers, I'm pretty sure, bur I'll throw in some to show you what I mean:
1 in every 200 Canadians will be diagnosed with cancer.
1 in every 5 youth suffer from depression.
90% of Canadians come in for cancer treatment.
40% of youth come in for help (or treatment) for depression.
And then we can incorporate the mindyourmind slogan "reach out, get help, give help!"
Hope this doesn't sound too confusing! Haha.
Kamilla.
