The Mental Health Commission of Canada wants to know how young people are accessing help online and how we can improve online content to better suit the needs of youth looking for mental health information. They asked mindyourmind to talk to youth about these issues and prepare a summary and a list of recommendations.  A group of 12 youth from across the country were recruited to help us with this task.  And they call themselves “ Project FYI”.  Follow the blog to follow their progress!

Today we built relationships between all the members of our Youth Advisory Board and did fun ice breakers to get to know each other. We discussed mental health, what it means to us, and how we attain information when we are searching for information on mental health. We discussed our project and the name we wanted to give it, as well as a logo and discussed how we felt about our first meeting. We successfully fought through technical difficulties as a group and persisted in creating a comfortable group setting where we all laughed and joked freely. We talked about where we wanted to go with the project, and our goals as a team. We decided what approach we wanted to take with the project and discussed how we would get out project noticed. The meeting was productive but fun!

PS.  We created a name for our group…Project FYI….(for your information….forward youth initiative…find your identity) And working on a logo as we speak!
