Project FYI Wraps Up!

E-mail Print PDF

It’s been a half of a year since we’ve started this project and now we’ve reached the end of it. Even though we never really got to see each other face to face, we all became friends worked as a team. Thanks to our Facebook group, monthly phone calls/ Go-To meetings, and emails, we kept each other in touch about updates. After all of the voting and discussions, we finally chose the scrapbook format for Project FYI. However, our last meeting didn’t go as it was expected to, but we made the best of it! Here was how our last session together went:

1) It had to be on the last meeting that Go-To Meeting wasn’t working properly (really Go-To Meeting, really? :P). So instead, we talked to each other on the phone. So no doodling and visuals! We weren’t able to see the finished project of the scrapbook during the meeting, but we will soon!

2) The group began the meeting with catching up with each other. We had discussions about summer ending and starting school as secondary school and university/college students. There was a lot of droning about the heavy course work and waking up early to a normal routine again.

3) We officially started the meeting once the topic of the scrapbook came around. There were some reviews, suggestions and compliments about each of our scrapbook pages. Even though we weren’t about to see the scrapbook, we talked about posting it on our Facebook group page or emailing it for those who didn’t have Facebook. After we talked about why we liked doing the scrapbook, each of us were given a chance to talk about what we enjoyed the most about the project. A few of us said that the scrapbook was the best part, some of us mentioned creating a connection with people across Canada, and a few mentioned about having the opportunity to get to know new people who were affected by a mental health disorder, and/or were interested in mental health awareness. The Maria Luisa talked about how Project FYI might be a long-time project, which got us excited!

4) We decided to play a game to test how strong our connection to each other was. The game was that all of us had to count to a certain number, but only one person could say each other. Since there was seven of us in the meeting, our goals was to count up to the number seven without having two people count the same number. As cliché as it sounds, that game was easier said than done. For our first try, everything was going well until two people counted number 5. So then we tried again, and again, and again. After each redo, there was always a sense of anticipation, because every time someone counted a number, we would all wait a few seconds to wait if anyone would say the next one. Until what was probably our tenth try, we finally got it right and counted up to number seven.

5) Before we finished the meeting, Maria Luisa gave a little speech about Project FYI. She talked about how she was fortunate to be working with MindYourMind, and that the best part of the job was not just bringing awareness about mental health, but for working directly with today’s youth. Of course, we couldn’t help but say “aww!” because it was a nice speech to end our last meeting. J
Well guys, this is it. Can you believe it? We did it! J
