This is a place where you can share how your school gets involved to promote positive mental health or mindyourmind! In your school, you could host an event or promote awareness through art work, a play, a video, a talent show, sports event, fundraiser or countless other ways. If your school hasn’t done anything in the past, this is a great time to start! With 1 in 5 individuals having a mental illness, even if it doesn’t affect you directly, it’s bound to affect someone you know, be it your school mates, friends, or family members. So get other students, student council members, teachers, parents and counselors involved and be creative! You could keep the focus broad, on mental health issues in general, or narrow it down to specific issues such as bullying, depression or suicide, to name some examples. The possibilities are endless. Create some changes and then share your school’s story here!
Here is a list of some ideas to get you started in Your School: - Put up posters in your school. Print or order materials from mindyourmind from our Print Outs section, call local mental health resources and obtain posters or brochures from them or create your own.
- Put a list of local mental health resources together and post in your school or on your school’s website. Find mental health crisis services in our Help section.
- Create a mental health club or a support group that others know they can approach for help when needed.
- Create art work to promote mental health and / or stigma reduction
- Put on a talent show or a coffee house with musical performances, poetry readings, dance shows, etc., all with a mental health theme
- Create a video collage of students in your school, asking them 1 or 2 questions each. Here are some questions you might ask, for example, “What helps you deal with stress?” or “If you were experiencing mental health issues, how would you want a friend to help you?”

- Host a sports event and promote mental health awareness
- Host a fundraiser and donate to a mental health charity. Click here to donate to mindyourmind through CanadaHelps.org
