Suicide is the second and third killer of youth aged 14 – 24 in Canada and the United States respectively. Youth suicide rates have alarmingly increased by 400% in the last 30 years. It is perhaps even unimaginable to fathom that every 40 seconds someone in the world takes their own life. As a society, nationally and globally, we need to start recognizing suicide as an epidemic.
We need to start acknowledging it as a reality that requires immediate action to be taken.
Take Action! Tour is an American tour that takes music around the country and with it, delivers a message to youth everywhere that suicide is not the answer and that there are always other options.
We spoke to the creator of the tour, and founder of the punk rock music labels, Hopeless and Sub City Records, Louis Posen. He talks to us about the tour and how punk rock is speaking out against the stigma of mental illness.
Also, we got to know one of the bands from this year’s tour, Kaddisfly, as they shared their experiences of the tour with us.
It is an important cause with really great people behind it.
