Jay and Francesca, mym youth volunteer

On the cusp of winning the Best New Group and Breakthrough Artist Awards at the Canadian Radio Music Awards, Bedouin Soundclash clearly hits a nerve with their unique brand of storytelling. True to the title, Sounding A Mosaic, this album’s lyrics draw on a myriad of influences from the Clash to the Whalers. With a desire to inspire listeners, Jay Malinowski hopes to inject a new sound into the Canadian music scene.

When we sat down with him a few months back, Jay spoke about the grind of being on tour and the challenge of stealing personal time. What does he do when he’s by himself? He writes, he paints. He creates stories. Even as he describes his latest art piece, he tells a story of transitions, growth, maybe even death. Is he creatively charged at all times? Perhaps, although he admits its hard to write lyrics when you’re on the road. And on the road they have been for months. Despite the strain of touring, he strives to get the word down.

Bedouin Soundclash, interview, band, musicThere is something to be said about getting the word down. Perhaps we could all benefit from getting it out of our heads. Get it down. Share it. Or tear it up and chuck it, if it feels right.
Just get the word down.
