Rex Goudie

A regular guy from Burlington, Newfoundland about sums it up. He is sincere, well-mannered and has real ‘boy next door’ charm. He loves music, his family and friends and believes that staying true to who you are is what’s most important. Being crowned as the next Canadian Idol would be a dream come true but even he admits “there is more to life.”

MYM: Week after week your fan base appears to grow and grow. What do you think people are connecting with? Do you think its you’re performance or who you are as an individual?

Rex: I think it’s a mixture of a few things, it could be the performance on stage and the singing which is what I’m here for. But when you see me on stage you are actually seeing Rex Goudie. There is no back door to me. I try and show as much as myself as I can. I think people are identifying with the realness of who I am. I don’t mean to toot my own horn or anything but that’s the way I’ve always been.

MYM: And you take pride in being a good guy, right?

Rex: Why not treat everyone good. The way I figure is you treat everyone the way you want to be treated, right?

MYM: You have received some criticism that you have no formal musical training. However, you have talked about how music has played a huge part in your life. It has helped you through some tough times? Can you talk about that and do you believe your music can inspire people to make changes in their lives?

Rex: Music is the most inspirational form of art there is. You can see a powerful movie but you can’t put in reality, you can see art work but can’t put in reality. Music is written from life. You can listen to all the Bruce Springsteen songs and they are all written from experience and that can help. By listening to music like that it can help a person realize the situation there in and help them find a way to get out of it. It helps them cope and deal with problems. I know its helped me so many times.

On what will he miss the most of his Canadian Idol experience? Rex admits that he’ll miss everyone involved with the show, the crew, the vocal coaches and the friends he’s made.

On wearing his trademark white baseball cap?
“It might be old, it might have strings hanging from it… to be honest I can’t find another one that fits so good!
