Hot Hot Heat

Hot Hot Heat, band, interview, musicTwelve new originals from Hot Hot Heat, one of the most acclaimed young bands in modern music, Elevator, is the eagerly awaited follow-up to 2002's Make Up The Breakdown. It's also the result of over two years of virtually non-stop international touring that earned the Vancouver-based band a fervent worldwide following. "The revolution begins now," was how one reviewer put it, but as Elevator amply proves, the insurrection is just getting started.

"We figured there were two ways to record a second album," explains Hot Hot Heat co-founder and frontman Steve Bays. "You can do more or less what you did before, which works for some bands. Or, you can experiment, grow and change, which is the approach we took. What we discovered in the process was that, while we were taking huge steps forward musically, we were also coming full circle back to the style and sound that had brought us together in the first place. What we ended up with was a heightened version of what we've been doing from the beginning." - excerpt from www.hothotheat.com.

About Steve Bays

mym: Do you think music can inspire and motivate others? How has it changed who you are as a person and artist?
steve: Music can inspire and motivate others in many ways!
It has changed me a lot! Music fills me with emotion, and it helps me add emotion to my own music. Basically, it helps me make my music better. (That was a really good question.)

mym: What do you do reduce the hectic nature of being on the road, away from home, friends and family? How do you cope with the stress?
steve: Well, one really big way that I deal with stress is by talking with fans and friends online because if there is anybody that can make you feel good, it is our fans!

Hot Hot Heat, band, interview, musicmym: How has the recognition of your work from your fans and music critics changed who you are as person? Have you learned anything new about yourself?
steve: It hasn't really changed me that much. It just added a bunch of business to my life. One thing that I did learn about myself is that I can succeed in life. I am not just a loser kid if you know what I mean.

mym: Any bits of advice for people who are looking to get into the music industry?
steve: I notice that a lot of people in this business give up really quickly. All I can say is never give up. If you keep practicing, you will get better. There was a period of time when I thought about giving up, but there was this one kid that always urged me to continue. So I did, and look where I am now. Just never give up. You will most likely make it somewhere.

mym: Any bits of advice for young people who are struggling with the stress that life sometimes has to offer?
steve: If you are stuggling with stress in your life, just find a way to get lost in music. Music is the most emotional changing medicine for me. It will get me happy in a second! Always remember that "music is the only cure for the madness overwhelming this earth!" That is a quote by the kid who urged me to not give up!

Last words…

You never know where life is going to take you! Nobody knows what is in store for you in your future, but if one thing is for sure, it is always worth it to stick around and find out!
