Interview
It's been said that you picked your band name, Bring Me The Horizon, based on a quote from Pirates of the Caribbean. Aside from how you chose it, what does the name represent or mean to you?
BMTH: We chose it because its not really a typical name and it means to go for your dreams. Instead of putting things off or being scared to fail just go for it!
How does it feel that Bring Me The Horizon is becoming more well known not only in the UK, but overseas in the US and Canada, for example, as well?
BMTH: It feels great! When you create music you can never guess how its going to be accepted amongst people. When you see that people feel the same way about your music as you do no matter where there from its an amazing feeling.
In 2006, Bring Me The Horizon was the only band from the UK other than Coldplay, to make it to MySpace's Top 100 played acts. Did you ever think that you would make it to the same level as Coldplay in such little time?
BMTH: I don't think we're at the same level at all but obviously having a record like that is something to be proud of.
What have been some of your musical influences?
BMTH: We take influence from every aspect of music a lot of time on tour we'll listen to mellow stuff to chill out after a show or some electronic stuff to chance it up a little.
You've been known to make (false) fight scene videos while touring with other bands, that ended up getting misunderstood by fans - the fans took them seriously, you meant them as a joke....how else do you deal with stress while on the road?
BMTH: We just try and keep from getting bored. Anything goes really wether it be playing jokes/pranks, just watching DVDs, playing video games or exploring the city where we are.
Is there any one thing you can't live without while on tour?
BMTH: Clean underwear!
Some of the songs on this album seem to deal with angry feelings. For others that may also be dealing with similar emotions, could you maybe share some of the ways that help you to deal with anger?
BMTH: I'm a calm person but i think playing a show every night relives stress and any anger its great to just go crazy for an hour every night and forget about everything... its very therapeutic.
What do you do to relax and have fun?
BMTH: Go to the cinema, Watch football, Play video games, generally normal stuff.
Any words to live by?
BMTH: Bring me the horizon......
