Scattered Thoughts (and songs)

Paradiso

Paradiso – Cream Dream

I’m not normally big on instrumental tracks; that’s why I was surprised when I first heard about Cream Dream. To be honest, I expected just another lame attempt at sampling that I would like for about 15 seconds then turn off. But what I got was quite the opposite, the editing and sampling are done masterfully -- you would never have guessed they came from another song. It’s easy to get lost in, while not being to “in your face”… which is the calling card of any great instrumental track.

Dom

Dom – Living In America

Moving away from the subdued dance floor, the next song I’m going to feature is dirty dance hall/rock club. Dom’s track “Living In America” has a great classic feel to it using a distorted audio effect, and really gives off a great, light, summer track. It’s a classic styled pop song made for the charts today, and it’s hard to argue with the chorus “It’s so sexy / living in America” I’m from Canada, so might I suggest the edit “Living in (North) America”?

incubus

Incubus – Promises, Promises

Incubus are one of the very rare bands out there that have the uncanny ability to sound nothing alike from release to release. Their first album was littered with funk and fast paced punk (ala Red Hot Chili Peppers), while their latest album has become much more subdued and lyrically insightful. They are a band that deserve a lot more credit and recognition than they get, but you know what they see… true genius is never truly appreciated in the moment (except for when it comes to this playlist of course).

lil-wayne

Marvin’s Room – Lil Wayne

Drake released a song earlier this month entitled “Marvin’s Room” from his upcoming album entitled Take Care. And like any other popular song, we have a Lil Wayne remix of it. While I find that most of the songs Lil Wayne remixes are gold anyways, this one in particular is good. It can be said that since he’s gotten out of jail he hasn’t had the impact that he did before he left… but he’s been hard at work at his own album – The Carter IV. And this song is an example of that because you can’t help but like it. Lil Wayne = you’re name beseeches you because you are larger than life.
