The county of Sarnia-Lambton, in south-western Ontario, has experienced more than nine suicides of teens in the past three years. Shiloh~Inwood United Church is located south-east of Petrolia and has responded to the sadness felt in the community by installing an art project, "Holy Wind," and participating in a silent auction to raise awareness of mental health issues in teenagers and funds for mindyourmind.
“HOLY WIND” was created for Pentecost, a festival in the Christian church celebrating the gift of the Holy Spirit. The colourful knitted scarves symbolize the tongues of flame in which the Holy Spirit descended on the first Pentecost. “Peace be with you” is written in Hebrew, French, Spanish, Dutch, German, Ojibwe, Swedish and English, representing the different languages the disciples were enabled to speak.
Shiloh~Inwood United recognizes the precious gift of children and youth in the world and holds them in prayer, praying for peace within and peace without. The gift of the Holy Spirit allowed all people to understand each other....this is our hope for the people of the world....that we all be heard and understood, especially those who feel they have no voice.
