Pedestal

E-mail Print PDF

It starts the same way, but I know,
That this is just your pedestal.
The one I put you on to see,
Just how perfect you can be.
You'll fail me everytime, I know,
But I can't help it, you're beautiful,
If only for a while before I see who you really are,
Then your beauty fades, so that I see your human form.
The one that I ignored or hoped would never come, show me the door.
I'll leave you to yourself, I will bother you no more,
With my stupid questions, please show me to the door.
Lead me out, away.
Send me on my way.
You're no longer on your pedestal, your feet stand firmly on the floor.
But still I see your image, risen high above the rest,
Looking down upon the space surrounding me, shame burning in my chest.
I know you're better, will always be,
Will always be so much higher than me.
But I wish for one moment, one moment of glory, I would stand up high on your pedestal,
Your view clear, destroy the mystery of your beauty,
If only so that I may finally be free.
