Download Be Safe to help you make decisions in a crisis
Over the last year, a group of youth from mindyourmind created a tool called “Be Safe”, in collaboration with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) and partners in the Systems Improvement through Service Collaboratives. This app helps you make decisions when you’re in crisis, allows you to make a safety plan and informs you of resources in London, Ontario.
On March 20th, 2014, the team of youth presented the app to a group of around 50 service providers. We, as a team, talked a lot about how we created it, why we created it and how to use it. The vibe in the room was so positive, people were completely engaged and everyone was genuinely excited to use the app. It’s rare to have a such a captivated audience, so it felt really nice to have a lot of interest.
We've been working on this app for a year now, and I just feel so proud of what we've created. It really just hits home for me. It’s London specific, so you have resources that you can easily access, and you have a customizable safety plan that you can fill out and make your own. It's so personal and easy to use, and I'm excited to see the difference it'll make within the London community.
Presenting this app gave this whole project a sense of completion. It gave the whole team an opportunity to take a step back and reflect on the work we’ve done over an entire year. And that in itself is great- It’s easy to get so caught up in working hard and getting things done that you forget to take a step and reflect on the good work you’re doing.
Youth are going to get the help they need and deserve because of this app. And I feel honored that I got to be a part of it.
