Feel Good Friday: Green Grocery Store
Recently a grocery store in Amsterdam decided to make one aisle completely plastic free. All of the foods are packaged in biodegradable or other more easily recyclable materials such as glass, cardboard and metal.
I am so used to plastic being on everything in the grocery store that I couldn’t imagine what they would do without it. Our world is so reliant on plastic that we don’t even look for alternative solutions and rarely think about the impact our choices make. For instance every time I throw out a piece of garbage I never stop and consider the hundreds of years that it will take for that plastic to disintegrate. I admire this store for facing the challenge head on and helping us slowly change our habits. Their initiative goes to show that small changes have a big impact. I also think this story illustrates the fact that the past doesn’t necessarily predict the future. Just because your life has been one way doesn’t mean it can’t change. Take their lead and change it up, try something new! You might be surprised by the results!
The idea of Feel Good Fridays started because we believe the simple things that bring a smile to our face, are some of the best things. Smiling and laughing has been proven to reduce stress in our lives! When we smile or laugh it releases neurotransmitters in our brain called endorphins, which are in charge of making us happy and helping to relieve stress.
