Feel Good Friday: Over 900 Cats and Counting!
Awareness for adopting shelter animals vs. buying pets has been amazing in recent years! For decades, the usual way to welcome an animal to your home was to buy them from a pet store and then we found out that this was actually harming animals with the practice of “puppy mills”. There has been so much awareness about dogs but where do the cats go?
Cats are different vs. the puppy market; they can multiply very quickly on their own and feline overpopulation occurs very fast. This is why it is so important to support cat adoption agencies and appreciate all of the foster homes for these animals! In this video, Beth Stern explains her foster cat home that she shares with her husband Howard Stern, where these animals originally come from. She also explains that love and affection gives these cats the ability to thrive and live healthy and happy lives.
As a pet owner of cats and a dog, I don’t understand animal cruelty or neglect, but I am aware of the great responsibility and cost it is to care for animals. Animal abuse is a reality in our world but with people like Beth and Howard Stern offering the love they do to foster cats, we can also do our part to care. Some ideas are to follow animal rescue organization’s social media accounts, donate to them and appreciate the people who put in so much time and effort socializing and caring for these animals. The idea of Feel Good Fridays started because we believe the simple things that bring a smile to our face, are some of the best things. Smiling and laughing have been proven to reduce stress in our lives! When we smile or laugh it releases neurotransmitters in our brain called endorphins, which are in charge of making us happy and helping to relieve stress.
