Feel Good Friday: Supporting Our Most Vulnerable

In this edition of Feel Good Friday, we wanted to share the story of a woman living in Thunder Bay who opened up her home to those experiencing addiction. Thunder Bay currently has a high population of individuals experiencing substance use issues but lacks appropriate resources in comparison.
Due to limited resources, wait times are very long for those looking to enter recovery, but those who want to get sober can’t wait, they need the support immediately. Brenda Letournue, who had also experienced substance use decided she wanted to bridge the gap and provide a safe space for those who needed immediate support in their recovery. In the last year, she was able to support 20 people detox in her home.
It’s truly inspiring to see individuals like Brenda within our community who against the odds step up and support our most vulnerable.

The idea of Feel Good Fridays started because we believe the simple things that bring a smile to our face are some of the best things. Smiling and laughing have been proven to reduce stress in our lives! When we smile or laugh it releases neurotransmitters in our brain called endorphins, which are in charge of making us happy and helping to relieve stress.
