Feel Good Friday: What a Ray of Sunshine
You know those moments when it feels like you have a smile on your heart and you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? The story/video for this week’s Feel Good Friday gave me exactly that feeling, and continues to each time that I watch it. The video shows older sister Lydia on babysitter duty with her two year old brother Bo, while their mom was getting ready for the day. Lydia’s go-to babysitting method with him is playing guitar and teaching him words through music. Bo has Down syndrome, and while his vocabulary is limited, his big sister has taught him the 12 words he does know through music.
In this video she is playing “You Are My Sunshine,” and you can feel the love and pride between both of them as she prompts him to sing along with the words he has learned. When he sings “hap-pyyy,” I can’t help but feel some happiness in my own heart. It truly reminded me that moments like this are invaluable and so is the joy they can bring to us, even if temporary.
The idea of Feel Good Fridays started because we believe the simple things that bring a smile to our face, are some of the best things. Smiling and laughing has been proven to reduce stress in our lives! When we smile or laugh it releases neurotransmitters in our brain called endorphins, which are in charge of making us happy and helping to relieve stress.
Remember to check back for next week’s Feel Good Friday!
