HeadsUpGuys

Well, it’s that time of year again... “Movember”! In honour of this, we want to bring some attention to an awesome initiative right here in Canada that was co-created between the Movember Foundation and The University of British Columbia. “HeadsUpGuys” is a project of the Men’s Depression and Suicide Network that aims to develop resources, services, and programs to improve the mental health and well-being of men. What an awesome initiative for a demographic that unfortunately still very much struggles to ask for help when it comes to their mental and emotional wellness.

From their website (headsupguys.org), which includes everything from tips and tools to information about professional services and success stories from men who have made it out of the darkness, to their awesome social media presence, HeadsUpGuys is making big waves for a population that has been drowning in silence.

Check out their website for more information, and for pete’s sake let’s help work towards a society where men are encouraged to talk about their feelings and vulnerabilities, and start removing harmful phrases like “toughen up,” “men don’t cry,” “feelings = weakness,” etc. from our vocabulary! The truth is, going it alone isn’t indicative of strength and reaching out isn’t indicative of weakness. In the words of HeadsUpGuys, “Depression is a beast that takes many hands to tackle,” and you deserve a team to support you through this fight!
