Hi, I’m Rachel!
Hello! My name is Rachel and I’m currently in my fourth and last year of my undergraduate degree at Western University. My home town is in Mississauga around the Port Credit region. Three things you need to know about me; I have 3 dogs, 3 siblings and 3 pet peeves- cold coffee, miss-matched socks and a fridge without Franks Red Hot.
The program I’m in is Media and the Public Interest- MPI for short. Here, I am able to connect my love for storytelling and visual media, to my passion for advocacy and social change- what a world to live in! I love it so much; I’ve even gone to the Ontario University Fair in Toronto the past two years to represent media studies at Western and help ease other potential students and their parents’ – mostly their parents’- minds, regarding their next big step into university.
I’ve always been interested in helping stories be heard. Writing and sketching will always have a special place in my heart. But as I grew in my program and learned more, I realized I wanted to make a difference in the real world. When I realized I could take a placement at mindyourmind and actually make that ambition a reality, I knew this was the place for me.
Mental health and well-being is integral to one's ability to be everything one can be for the world. The work mindyourmind has done so far exemplifies the importance of providing people with accurate information and creative ways to tune in with yourself and your loved ones. If any problem is going to be solved on the outside, the inside must be dealt with first.
It’s safe to say I’m motivated for the next few months here. I cannot wait to see what this next step will open my mind and heart up to.
Rachel began her mindyourmind placement as Marketing and Innovation Assistant this September, and could not be more excited! As a Psychology and Business student at the University of Waterloo, she is a proud mental health advocate, and passionate about helping connect mental health resources with those who need them. In her spare time, she enjoys writing, baking and going outdoors.
