Introducing Simran

Hi there! My name is Simran. I’m a recent graduate from Humber’s post-graduate certificate program in Addictions and Mental Health and the newest member of the mindyourmind team. As a first generation Indo-Canadian, mental health was not something we discussed growing up. I first learned about mental health/illness when a family member was diagnosed with a mental health condition. Becoming witness to the stigma and barriers they faced really pushed me towards mental health advocacy.
I decided that I wanted to work within the mental health field to educate and develop programs for individuals who would benefit from them the most. I’ve had the opportunity to work with different organizations to create programming and provide education that focuses on youth mental health and I’m so excited to be able to continue doing so with mindyourmind.
Self care is something that is also extremely important to me. As part of my self care I spend time painting and drawing mandala patterns. It is a form of self care that has supported me in my mental health journey and one I really enjoy sharing with others. If I’m not painting or working you can find me at the beach with my friends and sisters or playing with my cat Taco.
I’m thrilled to start this journey collaborating with youth to develop new tools and resources.
