Jonathan Toews Hike
Starting on February 4th, Jonathan Toews, a man from St. Catharines, Ontario will be hiking to Defeat Depression!
Jonathan will be hiking Ontario's Bruce Trail in four separate 24hr hikes to raise funds and awareness for mental health.
He was inspired to start this because of his own mental health struggles as well as the struggles his family has faced.
Mental health is a growing topic and affects every family in Canada. Whether it’s first hand exposure, or exposure from a friend or family member. The topic has become less stigmatised and more talked about within the community but still, only 20% of people affected by mental health receive treatment.
There are approximately 4,000 suicides in Canada every year – 11 people each day. Suicide accounts for 24% of all deaths among Canadians aged 15 to 24 and 16% of all deaths for the age group 25 to 44. These startling facts are why this campaign is so important and why so many Canadians join Defeat Depression events or volunteer to organize an event in their communities.
Jonathan is looking to raise awareness for mental health and would love participants to join him on the hike, or donations to help raise funds.
