Something new in London, Ontario!
London Police Services (LPS), Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Elgin-Middlesex, St. Joseph’s Health Care, and Middlesex-London Paramedic Services have come together to launch a 1 year pilot project that focuses on reducing police-led responses to crisis situations. The goal of this project is to provide support to members of our community who are at risk of crisis due to struggles with mental health and/or addiction through proactive outreach.
It is available to individuals 16 years old and up. As part of this program, the Community Outreach and Support Team (COAST) will regularly interact with individuals who are most vulnerable in London. They will support them in accessing local services and provide specific care plans to reduce unnecessary hospitalization and involvement with the criminal justice system.
Individuals who would like to access this service are able to do so through LPS or CMHA’s Crisis Services and Intake team.
