TV and Wellness: A TELUS and Calm Partnership

A new partnership has emerged between TELUS, the communication and information technology company, and Calm, the award-winning mental health and wellness app. Their business agreement involves delivering mental health and wellbeing content into the homes of Canadians who are subscribed to TELUS Optik TV or Pik TV, through the TELUS Healthy Living Network. This content is said to include guided meditations, breathing exercises, and bedtime stories, with the goal to help customers reduce their stress, sleep better, and live healthier.

I certainly didn’t know that TELUS had a Chief Neuroscience Officer, but that’s exactly what Dr. Diane McIntosh’s role is. This is some of what she had to say about the motivation behind this partnership: “In addition to the significant and sustained toll that COVID-19 has had on the physical health of thousands of Canadians, it has also had serious and far reaching consequences for our mental health… With this pandemic comes unexpected and unpredictable change, so it’s vital that we look after ourselves and each other. This partnership is another way for TELUS to provide its customers with access to wellness tools, when and where they need them most.”

It’s neat to see innovative collaborations like this that recognize the importance of mental health and seek to provide resources in the ways that they can. While there is still a lot of work to be done in the field of mental health to provide better treatment and support to those struggling, it’s always good to see different wellness supports being integrated into our everyday lives.
