Western Fundraises for mindyourmind!

On December 1, 2017 Western University Kinesiology students ran a fundraiser to promote physical activity for improving mental health! They raised funds by having teams of students climbing stairs at the University Community Center. All of the proceeds were donated to mindyourmind!

mindyourmind was approached by Alan who is a Kinesiology Professor at Western University. Alan explained that he is running a pilot program where third year students connect with first year students through the year, ultimately to promote the idea that social connection and physical exercise can support good mental health.

The mentor students enthusiastically planned their fundraiser and divided their first year students into teams to compete with the stair climbing! mindyourmind designed a postcard with tips for dealing with anxiety, grounding techniques and a couple motivating quotes. These postcards were handed out to anyone that donated any amount for the fundraiser.

The transition into postsecondary can be a rough year for students. This, coupled with the fact that many university students are navigating this while also making a brand new city their home, is why young people need to know how to reach out, get help and give help for themselves and their friends. We were thrilled to see so many young people enthusiastically participating in this event and chatting with other students about mindyourmind and other mental health supports while raising money.

We are so grateful and appreciative for being thought of by the students at Western University!
