You Matter Day

Warning: This post contains references to youth suicide
On Sunday, November 13, 2016, people around North America connected on Facebook to tell or show people how much they mattered.
The event, called “You Matter Day: Let’s Chase Away the Darkness of Suicide” was started in Minnesota in memory of Josh Papenheim, a youth who lost his life to suicide. November 13th would have been his 21st birthday. People were asked to tell or show someone how much they mattered that day, and then light a candle in the evening to honor all those whose lives have been lost to or affected by suicide. Pictures of candles as well as stories and words of encouragement were shared on the event page that evening.
People all around the world connected to the event, highlighting the stories of loved ones lost, but also finding hope and solidarity in the community that had been formed.
