Balancing Work and Play at School
Freedom. It’s something that you, as a University student now have an abundance of. You are free to make your own decisions. Whether you want to go to class or not, what time you eat and when you go to bed. It is all in your hands with no one monitoring you. With this new found wave of freedom, it is very important to stay responsible. Always go to lectures and tutorials. Always complete assignments on time and always review your notes!
However, University is also meant to bring you out of your comfort zone! Go find a club that interests you. Go to your floor and faculty meetings to meet new people and hear about what's going on around your campus or go volunteer in your community. Always try and get involved, you only live University once! Of course school comes first, however you need to have a balance. Try to be active and join a sport or try intramurals, do whatever it takes to get you up and going, because our bodies need to release all the stress we accumulate in our day to day lives. Even simple stretching in the morning or meditation will keep you from burning out in the long run.
In all, you will love your school and all the memories that you will make, just make sure you are taking care of yourself mentally, physically and socially. Time management will be your biggest struggle, but I believe you can pull through and make the most out of everything.

Hi, my name is Melina and I’m 18 years old. I am a first year student Western University in London. I am in Kinesiology and I hope to later go on and get my Masters. Moving away from home was scary, but after I met my floor family I feel a lot better. I’m so happy I go to Western and I am very excited for the future.
