Meaghan Smith (audio interview)

Meaghan  Smith is a singer songwriter who  hails from London, Ontario.  She has been writing songs since she was 12 years old, and has released three albums.  Meaghan's songs have been described as "imaginative",  "whimsical," and "charming".  Her songs are fresh and unique, but have a vintage flavor inspired by the musicianship and style of the 20s, 30s and 40s.  She has collaborated with the likes of Linda Perry and Kid Koala, and has toured all over Canada and the USA  with artists like  Ron Sexsmith, KD Lang, and as part of Lilith Fair. She is signed to Sire Records and her songs have appeared on soundtracks for the film 500 Days of Summer, and the TV dramas Grey's Anatomy and Brothers and Sisters. Meaghan is also an accomplished artist, having studied at Sheridan College in Oakville in their prestigious animation program.  She still paints and draws extensively.  Meaghan connects almost daily with her fans using facebook, Twitter, Myspace and fanbridge.com.   Meaghan lives with her husband in Halifax, where she is currently painting, writing a novel, and writing songs for her upcoming record.

On songwriting:
"Making up songs is sometimes like hunting at night. It's a total shot in the dark but I figure if I shoot for the stars, I just might miss and hit the moon..."

On who would get to play Meaghan, should someone make a movie about her life:
"Liz Lemon.  Not Tina Fey.  Liz Lemon.  We are the same person."

On her favourite place:
"I love touring Canada.  It is a huge, huge, beautiful country."
