Ten Ways From Sunday

Ten Ways From Sunday is a Rock band from British Columbia that are intent on making a difference in the lives of others. They are down to earth and have a deep love for music.

Read on to find out more about the band and its’ involvement with youth as MYM speaks with Matt Layzell, lead vocalist.

Can you give us the lowdown on Ten Ways From Sunday? How and when did the band start?

Yes. Matt and Mike began playing together when they were in high school. The musical chemistry was immediately apparent. Mike's brother Dave joined in THE YEAR 2000 and ONE, and Ten Ways From Sunday was born.

You also perform at schools with a Reach Out program of the B.C. Schizophrenia Society that aims to educate youth on mental health and psychosis. Can you tell us a little bit about your involvement and what it means to the band?

We have all known people who have experienced psychosis in our pasts. It is a great privilege for us to be able to help people learn about the issues and to potentially assist those who may be experiencing symptoms of psychosis. It is also a great way to expose our music to a growing audience.

What does music mean to you?

Music is our entire world. It means more than you can ever know.

What are your major influences as musicians?

Life, the universe and everything.

Do you have any hopes for how your music will affect others?

We hope that we can reach people through our music and hopefully raise awareness about psychosis.

Best memory on the road/tour?

Playing to a packed auditorium of music hungry fans in Vernon on the 2006 BC Reach Out tour... it was very clear that both our music and the overall message of the show was well-received and absorbed.

How do you deal with stress on the road?

Listening to and playing music every day. Ipods and Tim Hortons coffee.
