Top 20 Under Twenty winner Paige Lawson talks about anxiety
mindyourmind volunteer Paige Lawson talks about her experience with anxiety throughout high school. One of the hardest things for her to deal with was wondering what other people thought about her and if they were judging her or not. This is a common worry for someone who deals with anxiety to have and also a source of anxiety. Today, Paige does what she wishes she could've done in high school. She does public speaking about her experience with anxiety through a program that she started called the DREAM project - Direct Resources for Education Alternatives and Mental Health, in order to reduce the stigma associated with anxiety and and mental health to help others who are dealing with the disorder. Many people still feel ashamed about struggling with something that is both common and treatable and Paige wants to get the message out that “Had this type of information been available to me, my school and life experience would have been drastically different”.
In 2010 she was recognized for her leadership and advocacy by being selected as a winner of the Top 20 Under Twenty awards, an awards program presented by Youth In Motion that celebrates and honours Canadians who have demonstrated a significant level of innovation, leadership and achievement but have not yet reached the age of 20.
