If you’re not from London, Ontario, you may not be aware of how slow, aggravating and ridiculous it can be to drive in the city. This is punctuated by random trains, there are tracks that run right through the core, and sometimes the train crossing lights just turn on for no reason (I’m sure there is a reason but I don’t see it in the moment). One day on Wharncliffe Road the cars were moving so slow that after a few minutes I was getting annoyed. Then, I spotted this giant Turkey walking down the middle of the road! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing on a busy city street.
A lot of London citizens know about “Terry the Turkey”. There are articles about “Terry the Turkey” doing the job of traffic Police because he slows down the drivers. How does he do this difficult job? He walks where he wants and in an unpredictable way so that drivers are forced to slow down to make sure they don’t run him over. He isn’t as adorable as the baby ducks and fawns we see on social media but there is something endearing about London’s “Terry the Turkey”. It’s not a witty name, but it’s his name and it’s recognizable! Londonders always get excited to hear about what Terry is up to, whether it’s terrifying people as they enter his favourite coffee shop or just walking around the road slowing people down on their commute.
“Watch out, he will peck you… almost pecked me as I was trying to get him off of the road.” – London resident
I hope that the fanfare about this wild Turkey continues into the new year! I’ll keep an eye out for an expose on where he possibly lives, what he eats, and maybe we will see if he has a mate and future turkey babies? Here are some pictures and link to one of the articles I found about our local majestic mysterious wild Turkey.
I feel honoured that I have seen him with my own eyes! #terrytheturkey #ldnont
The idea of Feel Good Fridays started because we believe the simple things that bring a smile to our face, are some of the best things. Smiling and laughing has been proven to reduce stress in our lives! When we smile or laugh it releases neurotransmitters in our brain called endorphins, which are in charge of making us happy and helping to relieve stress.
Remember to check back for next week’s Feel Good Friday!
