Nowadays, social media often has a bad reputation. Some people say there is a lot of negativity and unrealistic social standards. It’s true that social media can shape our thoughts and feelings, and scrolling through it can become overwhelming at times. However, can we use social media more mindfully? The answer is yes. Social media platforms always give us the ability to personalize our experiences, but we rarely know how to take advantage of them.
On this International Day of Happiness, I want to talk about how we can use social media in a healthy way. As a social media coordinator, there are a few things I’ve learned along the way and keep in mind while scrolling, and I would like to share them with you.
Take Control of Your Account
Use the block, mute, and unfollow buttons. You can customize what appears on your account. If something on your feed is affecting your happiness, you don’t have to engage with it. Curate your social media accordingly so that it makes you smile and doesn’t bring up negative emotions.
Create and Spread Positive Content
When you scroll through the feed of mindyourmind, you’ll find wellness tips, affirmations, and positive content that are designed to brighten up your day. We create those posts intentionally because we know how they can positively impact and support our audience. If you are not a creator, you can still spread positive news on your feed or stories. Who knows, maybe your post will make someone smile.
Engage with Kindness
We must be kind when using social media to connect with others. Your choice of words has the power to make or break someone’s day. Even if it is a small emoji or a long paragraph, they can make a real difference. Please feel free to scroll past if you have nothing nice to say.
Follow Accounts that Motivate You
The contents we see shape our mindset. Follow accounts that post positive news, affirmations, motivational quotes, or those that teach you new skills. These can make you smile or support your well-being. Imagine you open Instagram in the morning and see a motivational quote. That will definitely brighten the day. Here are some additional ways you can try to use social media mindfully: Healthy Social Media Habits
Remember that social media has the power to be a positive or negative tool; it all depends on how we use it. On this international day of happiness, let’s try these small steps and see how they transform your online experiences.
