One of our goals at mindyourmind is helping connect you to resources, both community and peer-based. There are so many fantastic organizations in Canada that were created to support youth in many different areas of their journey. We know how challenging it can be to find the resources you need, and we hope mindyourmind.ca can be a place to help you get connected. A new resource we want to highlight is NewYouth.ca.
Introducing NewYouth.ca
If you are a newcomer youth in Ontario, it can feel overwhelming learning a new culture amidst all the other parts of life you’re navigating. NewYouth.ca can help you make the transition to Ontario by giving information about housing, transportation, finances and more. There is a Pathways to Future tool that can help explore options from your job readiness to high school or post-secondary school pathways. Find free opportunities for you to get involved in and answers to your questions about immigration. If you’re aged 16-29, there is an opportunity to join their Youth Advisory Group and help inspire other youth moving to Ontario.
mindyourmind Resources for Newcomer Youth
Because mindyourmind co-creates our resources with youth across Canada, we work with youth from all different walks of life, including newcomers.
Welcome to Canada Game
A great mindyourmind resource is our game called Welcome to Canada. This game was made with a group of newcomer youth to Winnipeg, Manitoba and features the things they want other newcomer youth to know.Â
Newcomer Stories & Experiences
You can read a lot of incredible stories that youth have submitted to our blog about Navigating Distance when supporting a family member from afar or International Student Diaries that features what it’s like being a newcomer youth beginning post-secondary school in Canada. International Students and newcomer youth alike have shared about their experiences in the Expression section of our website. Check back often as we are always adding new stories from youth across Canada that can help you know that you’re not alone.Â
