Qualities of a healthy relationship include:
- Respect
- Trust
- Communication
- Honesty
- Love
- Acceptance
- Empathy
- Efficient conflict resolution
Other considerations include:
- Power should never be abused.
- Boundaries need to be respected within any relationship.
- Dating violence is composed of emotional and physical violence.
- Emotional violence has many components such as controlling your partner, isolating them and exploiting them.
- Physical violence can range from being kicked or hit to being strangled or choked by an upset partner.
- Consent is the agreement to engage in activities. It is constant and should be needed at any interval in the relationship.
Finally, getting help is easy and can be obtained from either anonymous calls to help centres or visiting a website such as Kids Help Phone (which is not just for kids, but helps people much older than youth as well).
