It’s TBT again, friends. I’m still the newbie around here, so I was doing some exploring of our old mindyourmind content and – HOLY CRAP I came across a Pokémon Go YouTube video! I jumped from my chair. I, myself, happen to be a huge Pokémon fan. Pokémon Go is a popular mobile game where players can use their smartphones to explore different locations and catch virtual Pokémon. Heck Yeah, Pokémon Go is good for you, in more ways than one apparently. But also for mental health benefits? Awesome!
In the video, young people share their reasons why Pokémon Go helps their mental health and adds some excitement to their day. Pokémon Go isn’t just about catching cool creatures; it’s also a super fun way to stay healthy and happy.
Pokémon Go gets you off the couch and into the great outdoors. Walking around to find Pokémon is a sneaky way to get exercise, which is great for your brain. When I’m using the app, it gets me moving. Instead of being stuck inside, I’m out and about, walking through parks, exploring new neighbourhoods, and even discovering places I never knew existed. Just the other day, I found this amazing little garden while hunting for a rare Bulbasaur. Walking around and getting some fresh air helped me feel more relaxed and happy.
Playing Pokémon Go isn’t just a solo activity. You can join teams, battle in gyms, and even meet other trainers in your neighbourhood. Making new friends and hanging out with people who like the same things you do is awesome for your mental health. You feel connected and supported by an entire community. Sometimes I’ll join up with friends, and we’ll go on a Pokémon hunt together. It’s like a mini-adventure, and it’s a great way to bond. At the same time, always remember to keep yourself safe. Some young people from the video had some advice on this:
- Be aware of your surroundings and watch the road!
- Going out during the daytime is best
- Stick to well-lit places where you know there’s gonna be a lot of people around
- Try to stick together with close friends you know
- Don’t go to places you’re not comfortable going
- Always let your parents know where you are
Catching a rare Pokémon or winning a gym battle can make you feel proud and accomplished. These little victories give you a confidence boost and help you feel good about yourself. Plus, the excitement of finding a new Pokémon can turn a bad day into a great one.
Whether you’re looking for that legendary Pokémon or just exploring a new park, the game helps you stay mindful, which means paying attention to what’s happening right now. The app has helped me zen out, be present in the moment and forget about worries or stress that had been bogging me down. So next time you grab your phone to catch a few Pokémon, remember that you’re doing something amazing for your mental health. Pokémon Go is more than just a game; it’s nostalgic, it’s fun, it’s a sneaky way to stay active, make friends, and feel awesome.
mindyourmind has been around for almost two decades, and we have pretty neat stuff in our history. The idea of Throwback Thursdays (#TBT) started because we want to share this past content and some memorable moments too. When it comes to the mental health landscape, some things have stayed the same, while others continue to evolve.
Stay tuned for our next #TBT!
